In the past week hate letters have been received by many Mosques and Islamic Centre’s in which Muslims in Ireland where threatened with attacks.

At this moment there is an investigating going on by the authorities in to this hate campaign.

We would like to thank the individuals, organizations and the Government for their support to the Muslims community in Ireland after the Islamic Centres and Mosques received this letter.

Al-Mustafa IECC Ireland has received many emails from different faith leaders and organizations expressing their support to the Muslims in Ireland. Muslims have been living in Ireland for many decades. Majority of the 65000 Muslims in Ireland are now Irish and have been integrating very well.

Chief Imam of the Al-Mustafa IECC, Shaykh Dr. Umar Al-Qadri, said that in the 10 years that he has been living in Ireland he has never heard of such an experience. He warned that right wing extremism seems to be trying to found ground in Ireland. The Irish people are one of the most open minded, tolerant and peaceful people and I am sure that the majority will reject this extremist ideology that incites to hate. Muslims in Ireland have been integrating very well in the Irish society but they need to put extra efforts to highlight the true reality of Islam which is Peace, Tolerance and Integration. Shaykh Umar Al-Qadri also said that the perception of many people about Islam is driven by the media and unfortunately the media highlights a small percentage of extremists that do not represent the reality of Islam.

Shaykh Umar Al-Qadri also said that the interaction between Muslims and Ireland that took place during the Irish famine is today forgotten by many. The Ottomans sent a lot of aid to Ireland during the Great Famine. They had to circumvent the British to do this because the British, having sent far less were embarrassed by the generosity of the Ottomans.

The food arrived through the port of Drogheda and it’s interesting that the crest of Drogheda FC commemorates this 160 years later.
