Human Rights and Islam lecture in WIT by the Chief Imam

Shaykh Dr Umar Al-Qadri delivered a talk in Waterford Institute of Technology on the topic of Human Rights and Islam. The lecture was attended by a large audience consisting of academics, students, religious representatives and members of the public.

Chair of the Irish Muslim Peace and Integration Council and head Imam at the Islamic Centre of Ireland Shaykh Dr Umar Al Qadri will give a talk on human rights and Islam in the Main Auditorium at WaterfordInstitute of Technology (WIT) Monday,  November 26.

The event is part of a series of talks called ‘Theology in the Public Square’, organised by the Religious Studies and Theology lecturers at WIT.

He will examine the concept of human rights and will look at ways Muslims and non-Muslims can work together in championing human rights. He will look at common perceptions and misperceptions about human rights in Islam and will address the question of the rights of women in Islam.

Shaykh Dr Umar Al Qadri is a prominent voice on the topic of Islam in Ireland. He is an advocate for peace and for integration, and in 2015 he launched the Irish Muslim Peace and Integration Council.

He has appeared widely in the media and has done TV interviews with Tommy Tiernan and  Gay Byrne.

The talk starts at at 6:30pm. is open to the public and admission is free.
